For tab browsing, either hold down the command key when you click on a link to open it in a new tab, or press command T to open a black tab

To save passwords, go to preferences and there is a Saved Passwords option, mess with it to get your passwords to work

If you highlight something and right click it there should be an option to Search Web for what you highlighted

Not sure what is meant by type ahead links, but you would want to see error dialogs just for the security of your browser. For example if you type in http://www.yahoo.com:http://www.macrumors.com, in explorer (I don't know if it is fixed or not) you would see the first URL but be in the second URL. So you would click on a like that sent you to www.goodsite.com:hackersite.com. You would only see the goodsite on the address bar, but be in the hackersite. If you type that in Firefox, it alerts you.

I'll take another look at the "polished" version when it comes out, but I recently went back to Safari after using Firefox for a while. The main problems for me were lack of single-window tabbed browsing, and passwords that weren't being saved.

Some Firefox features that I miss are type-ahead links, an extension to get rid of error dialog boxes, googlebar for searching with highlighted terms, better auto-completion of URL's (they stay out of the way), and probably a few more that I can't remember at the moment.

It's all about volume. How many Mac owners are going to spend the money ($399) for a video card, great or otherwise? 1000? 10,000? 100,000? Not enough to be first. The only reason we get GeForce cards quickly is because Apple is doing the work, not nVidia.

Compton...the biggest dropout rate in the country. What a city! The math and accounting classes must do well. :D

Voted for IV, but it's really II. Golbez was the Best Villian Ever. He's big, he engages you in fights you can't win (well used in this game), and drops Meteo on you. Plus, cool theme music.

Yeah, Golbez was quite evil. More evil than Kefka, the "silent, just mess you up" type. :)

Golbez was a boss that was easier to hate, that's for sure. He did worse to more people than Kefka. Still...

Kefka was a useless, giggling fop.

...that's one of the reasons why I liked him. He was so insane he laughed half the time he did anything. I liked that part of his character.

In fairness to Sephiroth (screw Aeris), he did also destroy your town, kill Tifa's dad, and get within inches of dropping a killer meteor on the whole planet.

The only time I've ever thought Sephiroth was cool was in Advent Children and that was briefly.

IMO in FFVII he was a big emo pansy, just like Cloud. The only character in FFVII I really liked was Vincent...the rest of them I could've done without. Barrel/Barrett was a stereotypical clichd idiot, Yuffie was dumb and annoying, Red XIII was alright, Cid was...Cid, Tifa was cute and that's about it, Cait Sith was ok...am I missing any? I can't believe I wasted the 30 hours I did on FFVII before quitting and never going back because I couldn't stand the game anymore.

Apple made it clear last year in August that they were not going to have any new hardware at the Paris Expo (2001). They most likely will do the same again this year.

BTW, when is the expo? Seriously...

If there isn't going to be new hardware, then, ladies and gentlemen, let's take a look at the software department. There is the possibility of iCal and iSync to follow up to iPod OS 1.2 and Jaguar, along with the possibility of an iMovie/FCP update. I would pay close attention to a possible iPhoto 2 at Paris, though, as I think it will provide the option to load specific pics, instead of just dumping everything on your camera onto your computer.

Whether any of the things on these boards are true (which most AREN'T), I still like getting my hopes up and having them hopelessly crushed when Apple delivers the product a year later than thought, or fails to deliver completely.

It's my favorite part of being a Mac addict!

You know, I wouldn't mind Apple giving us their product plans before they release processors, maybe like 1/2-1 year early. Just keep the products and features that will house them secret. Isn't that what Intel does, announce a product waayyyy before it comes out?

Someone please tell me why Apple isn't already doing this. (Remember, just processor announcements, not new cases and things like the iPod)

I just remembered my dream last night...it was a brand new wireless mighty mouse on apple's main page. The mouse was slightly larger than the current mighty and had parts in the front that were transparent. The whole mouse was rechargable.

And here's the cool part (I don't know how my brain works this well in sleep), there was an orb that you set the mouse in to recharge that is connected via USB to your mac. And that same orb is what contained the wireless receiver for the mac. Then for classrooms there was a big orb, that looked sort of like an iSub, where you could put 12 mice in all at once to recharge them quickly.

I just wanted to post this in case, I have any sort of prophetic powers, so it's on the record. ;)

3 - Its not integrated into Windows. I've seen patches for IE go south. When they do they break the browser. Since the damn thing is integrated into Windows you can't simply uninstall the app and reinstall it to start over. I've actually tried working with MS on a broken system last year to get it up and running after a combined IE sec patch made IE blow up on certain pages. In the end after an hour on the phone with them they recommended redoing the user's system. With FireFox if I want to start over I simply uninstall the app and reinstall. I don't even need to reboot! So lets see. A 5 minute fix vs. a 2 hour fix. Which would you prefer?

    hear hear!

depends on what you're doing...dont forget it has twice the L3 cache as the new dual 1 ghz (same L3 cache as old dual 1 ghz) your getting approx. 500 more mhz split between two chips, which in motorola terms is pretty significant. consider it like this...the 1.25 is technically 20% faster than the 1ghz, mhz wise. Factor in the additional L3 cache and you have yourself a beast (though I think a used 1ghz tower with 2mb L3 per chip is the best deal you'll find around)

And where are the pictures of this thing, they can't even afford proper coverage of it on their site! But I guess if you use a PC you don't really care about quality in design and workmanship anyway.

Why do trolls insist on buggering the good people of this website?
Go back to your cave and your windblows box.

Wonderful! You quoted my words totally out of contest! You work for PR, right? :p

BTW: FYI, I'm Italian and work in Italian, so I can miss some third person "s" when I post in a forum... ;)

What's your problem with Archos? Hmm, OK, now I understand, they are: 1) European, and 2) with way less money than Apple to spend in pumping they products, so they are, by definition, inferior, right? Why give their stuff a real look, when you can much more easily go with bias...

Beside all this, I use a Mac from 1990 and I started my career in 1993 writing about Apple Newton (*THE* Pda still now!), so I can hardly be defined a "PC Troll"... :)

Even Mercedes makes large semi-Trucks. Different tools for different guys.

Mercedes truck/van/bus lines are pretty old...the Mercedes that started making those products was a product of that timeframe.... At the time, it was a logical expansion based on their core expertise of making frames and integrating motors and so on. Important core expertises way back when, when the element companies were founded. Nowadays, as far as I know, DCX's commercial vehicle and passenger vehicle groups are fairly separate with relatively little overlap.

All I think is that Apple should expand in ways that make sense for Apple based on what they're good at. Not based on what markets Sony is in....

I avoided any custom features from Apple to avoid any delays but even the standard 1.25 appears to have been delayed. (Someone suggested so that Apple could include Bluetooth)

Yeah...I'm no history major, but I am a student of AP European History and...

...Robespierre = bad. You think the French would invite Robespierre back after he was gone 5 years? No. I hope Jobs isn't guillotined!!! :D

i think he was somewhat necessary in the early stages of the revolution but its just so disapointing how he didnt use his power as he should. not that he played the dictator (altho there is a clique of historians who do believe so) but that he didnt stop the atrocities around him.

I originally thought about getting one, but I have since given up and will wait till the next revision which may very well include a Power4-lite option, but we won't have much idea about that until October 15th.

Sorry ddtlm, I think you misread what i posted ( or a futzed up my post) anywho, orginally on august 13th the apple site said it would be a 6-8 week wait. Two weeks later on the 28th, the 6-8 week wait went down to 4-6 weeks.

I guarantee in 2 weeks it will say 2-4 weeks. And eventually it will widle away to 5-7 days, 3-5 days, and then 1-3

So still count on the powermac 1.25 coming out around the same time the october 1st monitor rebate occurs. And if my predictions are right those could include new monitors from Paris just two weeks prior.

Actually I don't think I said that MY observation was my reason for this fact. But rather the observation of my co-workers (computer engineers) at a very large multi-national company that uses windows 2000 for it's medium sized computer networks. They are now in the process of switching to IBM Unix and Solaris (where possible). The effectively have "fired" windows, except for the front office PC's.

As for OS X, I would say that every one I know with OS X (about 8 or so people) have also had a similar experience to mine, which while anecdotal, is still a damn good record.

I will defend your view that Intel's platform is ahead of the Mac (for now, it is), but windows is not the same caliber of OS, as Unix.
