MacRumors has changed too much.
No I'm not just blabbering on and on, there was a community, of friends, of people you know and can talk to.
Now -- Its just like on random threads people are really really nasty.
I mean even just repost, people can yell repost, but its more like 'Why the hell did you repost this... God I've seen this 10000000x times... Geez this AGAIN!'
I mean it was alright before if you just didn't talk to people outside the forums, but now its not even like people want to talk to anyway.
Members don't care much about the forums or apple or anything specific there are -- they are all just here.
I mean it just happened right before the forum change skins, everyone started to get nasty.
I dunno if anyone can be done but heck I remember were members would get their birthday posted in community disc. but not anymore.
Just like today for my birthday.

Is there something similar for Cancer or other important diseases?
Now there's the right question to ask. I know you already got your answer, but folding@home is way more practical and useful than SETI, which relies on a completely made up formula with no known variables to look for other, intelligent life.

Do y'all know the difference between a "PORTED" app and a true native app. Most applications are written on the PC , then ported on the Mac. They just recompile the app for the Mac. They don't use specific "libraries" or "classes" that takes advantages of the G4. There are certains hardware calls on the X86 platform that do take advantages of the X86 architecture. For example if anyone is running Visual Studio C++, he can download the C++ compiler from Intel that would work with visual studio and programs would run faster. I am not saying that they use "Visual studio" to make all the software, but all I am saying is that most software and games are written on the X86 platform then ported on a Mac.

Well it's a bit different when the draw is for turning up at the store. The conditions on your juice bottle a likely there because that product could be sold in other countries than those eligible for entry.Fair point. I know I've won a prize from a US run competition before and there was a lot of red-tape and form filling with me being a non-resident. It all had to do with tax I had to get in touch with the American Embassy to apply for a US Tax number and everything. Maybe it's just more trouble than it's worth for companies to offer prizes of a certain value to non-residents?
Oh, and mpw as a Channel Islander you are of course welcome to enter the juice bottle competition. You might win a Narnia lunchbox if your luck's in. :D

Face it. It's time the design industry stop being *****-footed troglodytes and realize that, yes, indeed, ID combined with OS X on a new PowerMac will increase your productivity.
And it's similar enough to Quark that one could EASILY adapt. Hell, I did it after using Quark for almost 6 years.
Now? I'm all for Quark dying a quick, albeit painful death.
Here's to apple "thinking different!"
Here here ID2!
Totally..... I used Quark for years before I got my mitts on Indesign...... Quark is just so early 90's...... :p :p

Cheers,
Dave
I am definitelynot a 'power user', but I am a hardcore gamer. And when I see a friend with a year old PC playin Warcraft with less jumpiness then my 6 month old powermac, it makes me want to switch. Power does matter to me, and you cant get much power for the amount of money I have when it comes to computers from apple.

ooh. good point!
anyways, I know apple charged extra for the black MB, but that was different. the mac brand was known for being shiny white. a matte black apple laptop was something to be sought after. only a few months ago was there a black xbox. yawn.
The "good point" is that it would add a minimum of another $100-$200 to the price of the 360 to put the HD-DVD player inside. It was a good move IMO to keep the HD-DVD player separate. You play all your movies in the HD-DVD player (it also plays older DVD's) so that if it ever wears out, you can still keep playing on your games console. It sucks to have to send your console in for repairs, warranty or no, and playing your movies from an external device prolongs console life. Microsoft also hedges it's bet in the HD movie wars. If HD-DVD does turn out to be the ultimate loser, they can release an external Blu Ray player for 360 owners to use. If Blu Ray loses, all those PS3 owners are stuck with a movie player with no movies. Both formats are going to be a dead end, though. Digital distribution is getting to the point where it is practical and affordable enough to be used by most people, so pre-recorded content will die out in all formats in favor of people just downloading content and burning it to disc themselves.

For purposes of comparison, here's the IBM roadmap for PPC. The second arrow down, "1GHz+", describes a chip that is multicore superscalar, SMP capable, with integrated SIMD (vector-processing, like AltiVec), with rapidIO. This sounds like both the new chip IBM's announcing next month, and like what we'd expect in a G5. It's introduction seems to coincide with the use of low-K dielectrics: precisely what the new Fishkill plant is designed to produce, with full production intended for the end of the year. An interesting set of coincidences.
(BTW, I've posted similar comments on a previous forum: apologies for repetition)

This is a script written in house, it boots folding on boot-up of the machine. You also have to disable sleep because your system does not work when at sleep!
Our team number is 3446. http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html at the top type in the name you want, to check if its taken. It seems that the majority of tests the DDR 1 Ghz machine won. Barefeets caused unnecessary concern.

Hmm...maybe I won't pick it up.
We'll see, I need to put some cash way for OS X 10.5 and iWork '07, so it would be a good idea not to buy it. Maybe I'll only pick up the GodFather..time will tell

The real question on SGI is do they *really* offer enough to be attractive to Apple as a purchase. I can see them pushing SGI out of their own market but buying them, I don't know.

iPod turned into a usefull 'hub'.
- USB port
- ability to transfer pictures from digital cameras to iPod (all cameras like in OS X) --> just think ... ENOUGH MEMORY for vacation pictures!!
- PDA functionality (based on Palm OS)
- color display
- built in hand writing recognition
- hand writing ghost like Sony does
- built in keyboard like Sony does
- compact navigator / button arrangement like Palm Tungsten
- built in Bluetooth
- expandability port like Palm & Sony for scanners, etc.
- *** NO cell phone ***
- phone should be able to, via Bluetooth, talk to iPod to retrieve phone numbers, email content (bi-diretional), etc.
- ability to attach to any computer, via either the firewire or USB, and be treated as just another hard drive (at a plug & play level)
The worst part is the time is ripe for this. Palm is able to market, at a profit, for under $200 US, a color palm pilot carrying forward most of the addtional technology required. The USB port, little keyboard, Bluetooth, and other minor cosmetic changes can't cost a whole lot more. And Apple'd be able to jump in with a 'do everything' unit that'd NEVER need expansion memory, etc., for an EXTREMELY competitive price.
Come on Apple ... don't blow it AGAIN!

I'm going to glue a leaf and baby seal on my Wii, to represent that it's a green console, since it only uses about 1/10th the power of others. It makes me feel like I'm doing my part to save the enviroment. :)
