[url="http://semiaccurate.com/2011/05/05/apple-dumps-intel-from-laptop-lines/"]SemiAccurate claims (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/05/06/apple-to-move-from-intel-to-arm-processors-in-future-laptops/) to have heard that Apple will be transitioning from Intel processors to ARM processors in the not too distant future.
Interesting rumour.
I heard the other way around, that Apple will be using Intel as its main processor manufacturer (http://www.winbeta.org/?q=news/intel-build-next-generation-processor-ios-devices) for the iPad,iPod Touch, and iPhone, and will more than likely make that switch within the next year.
Reasons may be because of the ongoing lawsuits between Apple and Samsung, which they currently use.
I heard it enough, that it even got slashdotted (http://apple.slashdot.org/story/11/05/03/1357202/Intel-To-Build-Next-Gen-Processor-For-iOS-Devices).
So why go the exact opposite for the laptops when they would still be with Intel for their other devices? It would make better sense to standardize across the board.

Maybe they want the iPhone and iPod Touch to come out at the same time?
They are almost the same product.

Ehh, you were a bit snarky:p
That said, people need to thicken their skin a bit...last time i checked sarcasm and subtle jabbing isnt a reportable offense on MR; at least not yet

Whats the normal run of events?
3 split up segments and then one more thing
Here is what i reckon
1) Intel transition
blah blah blah, it has been quick, painless developers, developers developers. Everyone has been receptive except $#%#@@! Adobe
Intel keep giving us the chips
today we update MBP and iMac to core 2 duo
2)Talking about tranistion there are 2 products which haven't yet been transistioned
PowerMac > Mac Pro
Xserve > Xserve? Mac Serve?
Mac Pro has 3 configs
Best - Dual Xeon, 1GB 500GB 256X1800 $3299
Better - Core 2 Duo 2.93ghz 1GB 500gb 256mb X1600 $2499
Good - Core 2 Duo 2.6 1GB 250gb 256mb X1600 $1999
Xserves - All Xeons, dah
3) Leopard talk
4) One more thing
Candidates: iPhone, iPod, New Screens (may be intro'd with Mac Pro's) what ever else there could be

People are incredulous. They want / expect revolutionary products every month. Get real! I know many of us have addictions to Apple like Whitney Houston has to crack but if you want your money's worth for each upgrade, let's give the company time to put out some new features.
I hope no new phone until 2013 and iPad 3 in late 2012. Maybe then we'll get a real upgrade.

I work at a university that is undergoing cuts.
But some departments actually make the university money.
So, the United States should start a football program?? ;)

what about people who work in environments where you can't have cameras (i.e. some pros) what about people who have dual monitors etc...I can't see it being feasible. Just disable the ones who are not suppose to have them. Company policy. Dual monitors, well then it's either a wasted expense or it could be a feature. :P

Apple copying the power of the HTC Sensation. They should also concentrate on the IOS because its a joke compared to other new smartphone operating systems.
Troll time? Calling iOS a joke is a joke itself. Feel free to spam here, nice signature lol!

Big deal. I use two platforms (Mac OS X and iOS) that aren't dominating the market, yet I feel that both have the superior user experience and the superior software. As long as both keep providing those two things, I'll be a happy customer.

I just bought a Nokia 6682 and find the Symbian OS Smart Phone to be a wonderful phone. I will not be buying an iphone unless it comes in GSM with a mobile browser, full email POP support, instant messaging photo/video and mmp3 playback... and even then it won't be worth the cost.... they better pull something out of the bag because this phone rules!

Apple doesn't have a problem collecting 30% for completely stupid useless app store purchases, but they have a problem with making your iPhone look completely stupid?
Hmmm. Pot, meet kettle.
Useless app store purchases?
Based on what? How are they useless? This entire market is based around an app ecosystem. Apps are in demand. Apps help move hardware.
Your post makes no sense.

My 2-year contract finishes next month and my 3G is almost inoperative. No way I want to buy into the antenna problems with a 4. Glad you're happy though.
You can always pick up a used 4 to hold you over.
And the 'antenna problems' were a media and hater frenzy, nothing more.
Personally, I'm glad that I won't have to churn on upgrading for a few months more. Fact is that my 4 does everything I need short of NFR, and I don't really NEED that.
As a user, I'd be glad to use my 4 for another year.
As an AAPL holder, I'd like to see a 5 come out simply to kick the Verizon sales in the butt.

Kudos to Amazon for allowing non-amazon content to be saved. This is just plain cool. The revamped Mobile Me will be plagued by Apple's MO.

So I guess that Gold Master rumor was wrong.
I'll bet my bottom dollar that the conversation between the leaker at Apple and the second person went something like this:
Person: "So how close are we do a Golden Master?"
Leaker: "We're probably going to get a few more updates out then we'll start seeding some builds that are pretty Golden Master in quality"
The off runs the person to claim that the Golden Master seeds will be coming soon - I've seen it happen so many times where people get the wrong end of the stick especially if it is a chain of chinese whispers.

I'm still left wondering, why the delay if it's only a minor spec bump? I don't doubt the sept. release it just doesn't add up. Rumors of a later release started well before the quake in Japan so I don't think you can justify that as the cause.

I just forked over 750 dollars for an ipad 2 and ipad 3 is coming out? Ouch!!! I already want it.
I don't really buy that rumor. Apple rarely to never does a six month cycle on anything and shifting the iPad to the fall means no major product to help keep the stock price nice and high.
Plus an iPad on top of the new pods means more chaos for the retail staff, which I can't see them doing.
If anything I could see them shifting the iPads to late Jan or early Feb next go around and moving the spring laptops closer to the start of their annual back to school promo

As I have always known it, the standard configuration gives you a 14 day return policy, full refund, or 15% restocking fee if it is opened. A BTO machine is considered an "Opened" machine by apple, since they take the standard configuration and change it. So if you buy a BTO machine, you can return it, but you will be subject to the 15% restocking fee. Just take it back to an apple store, show your receipt, and it should be fine.
