I thought Godfather Blackhand edition would be just another PS2 port with tacked on Wii controls but IGN just gave it an 8.0 and generally had good things to say about it. That makes it the 5th highest Wii game they've rated behind Zelda, SSX, Elebits, and WarioWare.

I'll probably rent it first but this is surprising news to me. EA is doing a good job even if it is just ports. Hopefully, they will have a few new IPs on the Wii in the next year or so...

ok, I really do hope Apple comes out with a new display on Oct 1. Especially something like a 19" widescreen. Do all of you think this is a real possibility?

If Apple does release new lcds, I'm gonna go run out and buy my first mac (a dual1ghz powermac and a nice widescreen 19") so I can finally have a stable environment to run emagic logic platinum 5. :p

Please Apple! Give us new screens and make me a "switcher!"

I'm not sure I could have walked out of that store without reporting the employee to management. No sales representative should be dissing any product they sell. This guy is too stupid to be talking to customers, even at CompUSA.

Most people seem to accept the report as fact. Yet it makes little sense. IBM pitched the chip to Apple and they said no because the SIMD is not Altivec? (I may have that a little off.) I doubt that IBM works in a vacuum like this. Develop a chip and then see who buys it? IBM would work with all large potential customers. They would want to sell it, so they make what customers want to buy. This processor would certainly have Altivec. That is what Apple needs. Others that have not developed code for any SIMD yet can use Altivec as well as any other. Also saying Altivec instructions cannot be implemented on a Power4 based chip does not make sense, on the surface. Having said that, it is still possible that the report is true. Just because it does not make sense, and seems strange does not stop it from being true.

Today I got my replacement Wii (the old one wouldn't go online), and noticed after setting up stuff and then turning it off, I came back to the Wii after about half an hour it was warm. Is it cause of the WiiConnect24 (which I didn't have on my old one)?

Gah... "it's against the law"... whatever.

When stuff is ********, you have to protest. I assume you also think all "illegal" protests, such as the sit-ins and the like during the civil rights movement, were wrong because they were technically illegal?

My mp3 collection is 100% legal (ripped from CDs and downloaded from artists' websites). However, I might consider using this service. Everyone still gets paid, and I get a version of the song that I CAN ****ING PLAY ON MY LINUX PARTITION. *ahem*

it seem's like you are getting the run around from MS cause they want you to buy another 360 to make them more money. this looks bad on MS part in not doing anything in helping to track down the stolen 360. i thought that is why the unique ID was given to each system just for that case. and the fact they are using the live account, they can also be buying games with it which is like stealing your credit card.

That's a horribly selfish view of the situation. Would you really want MS to give out personally identifiable information about a customer to any Joe Crazyface that calls in?

You need to look at this from their perspective as well. I'm sure the prospect of $50 profit is pretty minor when weighed against the idea of giving personal information on a customer to some guy who just called in. Even if they wanted to, you're not going to get it from the standard customer service department, especially not after their recent "hacking".

That would be a cool machine.

I would just hope that they ditch the white plastic on move to a more exciting design. Maybe slightly larger base with AGP upgradeability.

I havn't seen anything that would lead me to believe that Pioneer have anything near small enough to fit into a laptop.

That's a trinitron screen with an 85hz refresh rate aswell, not some bargain basement monitor either.

I know LCDs are going to suit some people more than others but if anything I'd still go for a 22" apple LCD over the formac if the prices were a little more in my range at least.

yeah but a 21' CRT does not have 20.1 viewable. You need to go for a 22' CRT to have 20 inches in screen room.

also if the 17' iMac can be 1440 by 900 then 1600 by 1200 wont kill the formacs vision with three extra inches.

Chrono Cross is one of only four games ever to get a perfect 10.0 rating from Gamespot.com (the other three were Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Soul Calibur).

Which always prompted me to wonder "what were they smoking"? Chrono Cross started off with such promise, then the bottom just dropped completely out. It truly felt like they'd been 3/4 through a stand-alone game, then decided to tack on the Chrono tie-in. I particularly liked the shoehorned exposition at the very very end: "Oh BTW, Lynx was actually your dad, now go beat the last boss!!!" Or the "Kid is actually a clone of Schala - but we cleverly disguised this by having neither of them actually look like the real Schala & her purple hair!"

I think Gamespot rated the game the way I felt - play about 1/4 and think "there are great things in motion; the payoff will be spectacular!" But I never felt it lived up to its potential. Certainly not in the end-to-end fulfilment sense of OoT. Just my opinion.

Anyone remember crystalis? I playin that right now

Crystalis was like one of the greatest NES games ever. It's like Zelda - but cooler - and with a plot! GAMES THAT NEED A SEQUEL! And a VC release!

It's a great convenience until the RIAA gets pissed and either changes their mind about downloadable music or tells Apple to hike their prices.

We shouldn't worry though, Apple will defeat this in no time.

Really?. how?. Regardless of what apple does, it might be even easier for DVD Jon to break their new programming than for them to come up with new programming. Think about it. A company with a lot of paid developers getting outwitted by a guy with time on his hands. I think he wins everytime. Their cost to defeat him is astromnomical compared to his cost to defeat them.

Although it's an eye opener to know that itunes itself is what wraps the music with DRM. I'd have thought the music was already DRM'd on the server. But I can see why apple chose that route, so that to get DRM'd songs onto an ipod, you would have to use itunes. I bet they never thought someone would bypass the itunes interface (kind of shortsighted if you ask me, this should have been anticipated).

One way around this problem would be to store the music in an encoded format and have itunes decode the music and wrap in DRM.
Unfortunately, that can be bypassed too. A competent enough person (example DVD jon) could intercept the process between decode and before DRM wrapping and deliver the music. Another way would be for itunes server to request itunes to send a key and then use that key to add DRM to the music on server before delivering to user, although then you could build a player that intercepted the key and uses it to remove the DRM.
I'm sure for every solution apple can think of, DVD jon can think of a way to defeat it. There might be no technical solution to the problem at all.

The pulse thing is a magnetic thing (from the modem I belive). The pop sound, followed by the smell and the black screen, is a bad, bad, bad, bad eMac.
Don't worry though. If your eMac has lasted a month already, your machine should not be affected. Many, many people have bought the eMac, and the percentage who experience these problems are small. (Average PCs has a failure rate of 5-15%)

Such self-righteous indignation! (In the first post.)

Why should Apple be punished? They aren't employing the workers or denying them their rights. It's Apple's supplier that is doing so: if anyone deserves to get punished, it's the supplier.

Did Apple know that the workers were being exploited? Perhaps it thought that they were being treated fairly and that no checks were necessary. If that's the case, then the worst thing they are guilty of is being naive.

What was self-righteous about it? Do you feel that you have no responsibility for the actions of those to whom you give money? If Nike had not made attempts to change would you have felt that it was Nike's issue and not yours and therefore continued to buy from them. Ultimately it is your money that funds these actions and it is therefore your choice as to whether you think you are responsible for taking what measures you can to prevent abuse occuring as a result.

Self-righteous is the supercilious individual that believes he or she is unassailably correct that they can make such judgements about the motives of other posters.

Yep, the Pentium 5 is very real, and it is coming soon. 2nd quarter of the Pentium 5 debuting at 3.2GHZ is going to come out. It will have 100 million transistors on it and it will be manufactured at .09 microns. Also, here is the doozy, it will have 1 mb of L2 on die cache, and it will support 333mhz bus speeds, with the addition of DDR, that is a possible 667mhz bus speeds. By the way, if you were wondering, the Pentium 4 has 42 million transistors.

Now, for the G4: I am not sure how many transistors the G4 has, but I imagine it is way less then 100 million, or even 42 million, considering the P4 came out after the G4. Anyway, the cache on the G4 is higher on the high-end, 2mb of cache. But: the speed: 1.25Ghz? Can that really stand up to a P5 with 333mhz bus, and 3.2Ghz clock speeds? My opinion: most likely not.

Not to be criticle but the G4 does not have 2mb of L2 cache on the high end model it only has 256k. It does have 2mb of L3. The 1MB of L2 in my oppinion will be a lot faster then any L3 cache because it's accessed at full CPU speed. But we all know this doesn't really make a nickels worth of difference because we all know the current cpu at the current speed would be absolutely trounced by this new pentium. I also know feel that we will not be stuck at this slow progression of speed for the next year.

I personally though am in no way dissapointed in the new macs they are extremely fast. Yes faster then the Quicksilvers they just need to be used in the right application i.e. video editing, gaming, etc.. Anything that requires large amounts of data to be moved from the hard drive to the Ram and the same for the PCI and AGP cards to the Ram or Hard drive.
